Why Venture Capital

The Chicago Public Education Fund strictly applies core principles of venture capital to education investments. That Chicago is home to great traditional and new philanthropies already making sizeable impact frees up The Fund to do something different. We’ve seized that opportunity to define and refine what venture capital for public education really means, how it works, and what it can bring about.

The Fund’s venture capital approach not only generates social return for our investors, it also proactively protects their dollars. We use the least amount of capital for the largest return and we tie investment outlays to performance benchmarks. Ours is a unique model and public-private partnership that drives systemic change in Chicago education.
The Chicago Public Education Fund has been a catalyst for improving leadership and student achievement. Their work is an impressive display of what an effective public-private partnership can do for our city.
